Ttappis Tavern

Saved by 1 traveller

If you ask locals where to enjoy a traditional Cypriot meze in Paralimni, Ttappis Tavern is a name you’ll hear again and again. Family run since 1985, this long established taverna has built its reputation on homemade recipes, generous hospitality, and authentic flavours that have been passed down through generations. The rustic interior, complete with exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and open fireplaces, creates the feeling of dining in a traditional Cypriot home rather than a restaurant.

What makes it special

Experience excellent food and service

Enjoy a variety of freshly cooked meze dishes

Try unique items like sheftalia and enjoy seasonal variations

The menu changes with the seasons, making every visit slightly different depending on what’s fresh and available. Traditional favourites such as kleftiko, charcoal grilled souvlakia, lamb chops, homemade sheftalia, fresh salads, and seafood all feature alongside a wide selection of daily specials. The meze is the star of the experience, with multiple variations available, including vegetarian, vegan, seafood, and no pork options, all prepared fresh to order.

What Makes It Worth Visiting

Ttappis Tavern is one of the few places where the meze still feels genuinely homemade rather than mass produced. Expect a long procession of freshly prepared dishes, many using traditional family recipes that have remained unchanged for decades. The kitchen also prepares seasonal Cypriot delicacies that are difficult to find elsewhere, while homemade bread, grilled meats, and fresh seafood continue to attract both locals and visitors from across the island.

The atmosphere becomes especially lively at weekends, when families gather for long dinners that often turn into evenings of music, dancing, and classic Cypriot hospitality.

What to Expect

The restaurant is spacious but very popular, so booking ahead is recommended, particularly on weekends. Service is relaxed and follows the traditional Cypriot dining style, meaning meals are designed to be enjoyed slowly rather than rushed. Meze can include more than twenty different dishes depending on the season, while children are also well catered for with their own menu and smaller portions available on request.

ElloCyprus Recommends

Visit with friends or family and order one of the traditional meze menus for the full experience. Go hungry, take your time, and let each dish arrive as it is freshly prepared. If you’re ordering individually, the kleftiko, charcoal grilled lamb chops, homemade sheftalia, and seafood dishes are all excellent choices.

If you want to experience authentic Cypriot dining away from the tourist areas, Ttappis Tavern remains one of the best traditional tavernas in Paralimni and a place many locals continue returning to year after year.

Ello says

Call in advance to book a table as they may not have spare ones on busy days

If you prefer a more relaxed dining experience, communicate your pace preferences to the waitstaff

Consider trying their seasonal dishes for a varied culinary experience

For families with children, Ttappis Tavern is accommodating towards little ones

Always a good night at Ttapis. The service is what makes this such a smooth dinner place. They are so efficient. There is no menu during summer... it's meze. However I ordered a veggie platter and they made one bespoke. The meze just kept coming and coming. The freshly baked bread was wonderful and the watermelon was delicious and sweet. You need to book before coming as they won't have a spare table.

To be honest, for me the food is not good and not fresh. The waiting time is quite long around 20 minutes. We made a reservation by phone at 20.00 outside but when we arrived the staff said there is no vacancy. Not recommended and definitely not coming back.

One of the best meals I have ever had The best tavern in Cyprus thus far. It honestly is in a league of its own. Service was prompt and food came out freshly cooked which is sometimes not the case with taverns. The best sheftalia I’ve ever had without a doubt but every single dish was spot on. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I do suggest you call in advance and book.

The food is lovely here, we had a meze which is plentiful, all the dishes were freshly cooked and you definitely won't go hungry as there is a great mix of food for everyone which just keeps coming. I knocked off a star for 2 reasons...all the food seems to come at once which doesnt give you a chance to actually enjoy the meal as it feels like you're being rushed, the waiters should be more observant instead of bringing 3 or 4 main dishes as they just sit there getting cold as we're still eating the starters. We had to ask 3 times for the bill so the service could be a bit better in that respect. All in all, the food was good which is the main thing.

Visited Ttappis Tavern 2 days ago, and as you can imagine, we've ordered meze. When I was seated down, they asked if we wanted a menu or if we wanted meze. When I asked what dishes does meze includes, he told me "a little bit of everything." That's wrong for me. I asked for a reason. Anyway, I told him okay get me 2 meze." We got a salad, a round shaped freshly baked and hot bread with some dips, tzatziki, tahini, and tyrokafteri (spicy cheese sauce). Tahini was more similar to yogurt than to tahini, and tzatziki on the other hand was yogurt with a little bit of cucumber. Tyrokafteri, though, was one of the best I've ever eaten. Then they brought us bulgur, grilled hallumi cheese, one piece of kleftiko (lamb) with half potato, sausage, sheftalia, souvlaki, rabbit (one tiny leg and one tiny piece of a different part) with fries, zucchini with eggs, taro chips if I'm not mistaken, and 2 sticks with just 2 okra on each stick, and 2 burekkia with a few fruits. The food was good, but not worth 24 euros for each meze. If you see what each person ate for €24 you'll definitely find it overpriced. No snails, no pasturma, no spare ribs, and I could name many, many more than a REAL traditional tavern has to serve. In any other tavern, you get ×2-3 the quantity Ttapis serves for meze, with just €17 maximum. Disappointing but still recommended. Quality makes up a little.
