Potamia Beach in Cyprus is a true hidden gem for those who seek tranquility away from the bustling tourist spots. As a British expat living in Cyprus, I’ve found this beach to be a delightful retreat, offering a unique combination of serenity and natural beauty. The beach’s isolation means that you’re often one of the few people there, making it feel like your own private paradise.

What makes Potamia Beach stand out is its dog-friendly nature. It’s a place where your furry friend can run freely, enjoying the sand and sea as much as you do. The views here are nothing short of breathtaking, with the cliffs providing a dramatic backdrop to the azure ocean. It’s the perfect place to sit back, relax, and watch the waves roll in, all while your dog explores to their heart’s content.

Remember to bring all the essentials for a day at an isolated beach – water, snacks, and sun protection are a must. There are no facilities here, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient. Also, always ensure you leave the beach as pristine as you found it, to preserve its natural beauty for others to enjoy.

  • Isolated and serene: Ideal for those looking to escape the crowds.
  • Dog-friendly: Your furry friends are welcome to enjoy the beach with you.
  • Stunning views: Dramatic cliffs and ocean vistas.
  • No facilities: Bring your own supplies for a comfortable day.

Reaching Potamia Beach, popularly known as Dog Beach, near Kapparis is straightforward if you follow these directions:

  1. Starting Point: If you’re heading to Protaras via the highway (not the Ayia Napa – Protaras seaside road), keep an eye out for the vibrant signs indicating the way to Dog Beach. These signs start appearing from the traffic lights towards Protaras.
  2. Missed the Sign? No worries! Continue on the road from Protaras towards Kapparis. You’ll pass Zorbas bakery on your right and Amore Hotel on your left. Keep going straight until you reach the next major crossroad.
  3. Turn Towards the Sea: At this crossroad, you’ll see a sign on a street light on your right, directing you to turn towards the sea. This turn is located between a residential house and a yellow apartment building.
  4. Follow the Road: Once you’ve turned, follow this road as it leads you towards the sea. The road eventually becomes an off-road path, but it’s still navigable.
  5. New Dirt Road Connection (Since 2018): With the new dirt road that connects all the beaches, constructed in 2018, you have an alternative route. If you’re at MADD beach or Scouts beach, simply continue straight to the left and follow the dirt road until you reach Dog Beach.
