Pernera Beach in Ayia Napa

Pernera Beach is a small family friendly beach in Ayia Napa, located along the coastal path between Ayia Napa Harbour and Sandy Bay, also known as Vathia Gonia Beach. It sits towards the Sandy Bay end of this stretch, away from the harbour side, and is known for clear water, gentle sea entry, and a quieter feel than some of Ayia Napa’s larger beaches.

What makes it special

Explore the interesting underwater museum

Relax on peaceful sandy beaches

Enjoy clear waters for swimming and snorkeling

This is a good choice if you want a simple beach stop close to town, with easy access from Nissi Avenue and the coastal pathway.

What Makes Pernera Beach Worth Visiting

Pernera Beach is not one of the biggest beaches in Ayia Napa, but that is part of its appeal. It is smaller, calmer, and easy to combine with a walk along the coast.

The sea shelves gently into crystal clear water, which makes it more suitable for families than nearby Katsarka Beach, where the water becomes deep much closer to the shore.

What to Expect

Pernera Beach has a mix of sand and nearby rocky coastline, with the beach forming part of the wider coastal route between the harbour and Sandy Bay. It is a practical option for swimming, sunbathing, water sports, and a relaxed stop during a walk.

The atmosphere is quieter than the main resort beaches, but it is still close enough to Ayia Napa’s hotels, restaurants, and main roads to be easy to visit.

Facilities at Pernera Beach

Pernera Beach offers useful facilities for a comfortable beach visit. These include sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, changing rooms, parking, snacks, drinks, and water sports.

The beach also has Blue Flag status, which reflects standards for water quality, safety, environmental management, and facilities.

Water Sports and Swimming

Water sports are available at Pernera Beach, making it a good option if you want something more active than just swimming. The calmer, gently shelving water also makes the beach popular with families.

As with any beach, sea conditions can change, so always check the water before swimming and follow lifeguard instructions where available.

Access and Parking

Pernera Beach is easy to reach from Nissi Avenue, with access points to the coastal pathway along the road. You can also reach it by walking from Ayia Napa Harbour, Sandy Bay, or nearby hotels.

Parking is available, and bus stops can be found at regular points along Nissi Avenue. The 101 and 102 bus routes connect Ayia Napa with Protaras, making the beach accessible without a car.

Nearby Hotels and Areas

Nearby hotels include Callisto Village, Panas Village, and Electra Village. The beach is also close to Sandy Bay, and from Pernera Beach you can continue walking over the headland through a natural area towards Vathia Gonia Beach.

This makes it a useful beach for visitors staying nearby who want somewhere easy, family friendly, and close to the coastal path.

ElloCyprus Recommends

Use Pernera Beach as part of a relaxed coastal walk rather than treating it only as a full beach day. Start from Ayia Napa Harbour or Nissi Avenue, stop for a swim, and continue towards Sandy Bay if you want more space or a change of scenery.

If you are visiting with children, Pernera is the better choice compared with Katsarka because the water shelves more gently.

This beach is incredibly clean with beautiful golden sand. There's an interesting underwater museum to explore. Plenty of parking and the toilets are spotless. A great place to relax and unwind.

It is a nice beach, but there is some sea algae gathering at the end points and I am pretty sure there are some alongside the beach's coast. Decent prices and it is good where there is sand in the sea.

Small beach but very peaceful and quiet place and also close to the principal road in Ayia Napa. Bring with you googles to see all kind of coloured fishes. Water is very clean, but full of rocks. Also you have sunbeds on the beach which is very comfortable.

Lovely beach beds, showers, changing and toilets. Was very windy when we visited. Sea was quite rough and lifeguard put danger flags out. Very rocky near shore and very difficult to navigate through in strong waves. Plenty of free parking in car park and road leading to it. Hotel near by with bar to purchase drinks. Or supermarket a quick walk up road.

Pretty much sand on the beach and on the sea bottom to be so little beach here. The are strandbeds and parasoll for 2,50 €/ each. Also toaletts find you nearby. And of course some water activities. Sun shines and quite clear water is warm.

Beautiful beach with nice sand and a shallow, not deep shore. The water's edge is dirty, seaweed. Water is clean only if you move away
