The menu at Hondros is centred around traditional Cypriot cuisine, with a wide choice of meze, grilled meats, seafood, dips, salads, and slow cooked local dishes. Portion sizes are generous, so it is a good place to arrive hungry.

The meze is one of the main reasons people visit. It usually brings a long sequence of small dishes to the table, allowing guests to enjoy the variety and rhythm of Cypriot dining. Dips, salads, olives, pitta, grilled halloumi, mushrooms, sausages, vine leaves, courgette fritters, barbecued meats, and slow cooked dishes can all be part of the experience.

Signature favourites often associated with Hondros include kleftiko, stifado, souvlaki, sheftalia, grilled lamb, octopus, prawns, and freshly prepared seafood. Each dish reflects the simple but deeply satisfying style of Cypriot tavern cooking.

A Proper Cypriot Meze Experience

A meal at Hondros is best enjoyed slowly, especially if you order meze. In Cyprus, meze is not just a collection of dishes. It is a shared experience, designed for conversation, tasting, and taking your time.

The meal often begins with lighter plates such as hummus, yoghurt based dips, skordalia, aubergine dip, tomato salad, olives, cabbage, carrots, and warm pitta. More dishes then follow, from grilled halloumi and loukanika to mushrooms, vine leaves, barbecued meats, and rich slow cooked specialities.

By the end, the table feels like a celebration of local flavours. It is the kind of meal that works especially well for groups, but couples can enjoy it too, as long as they are ready for a generous feast.

The restaurant is located almost in the centre and close to the seaside boulevard. The interior has a Greek-Cypriot feel to it. All the walls are decorated. There are also outdoor seating areas. The menu is extensive, and the service is fast and efficient. Greek music plays quietly in the background. This place is definitely worth a visit.

A lunch break at this place turned out to be a perfect choice. The aubergines with feta were excellent, as was the halloumi salad, and the tzatziki was delicious. A very solid place overall.

Just returned from the restaurant and we had an amazing meal. We shared Stuffed Vine leaves which were beautiful. I then had suckling pig and my wife kleftico. We are regular visitors to Cyprus and have had both meals elsewhere but have never had anything as good. The suckling pig was just awesome 🤩 and the Kleftico so tasty. We shared homemade apple pie and ice cream for dessert which was excellent. It is a very long time since either of us have enjoyed such an excellent meal.

We went about 6pm, restaurant was quiet, the staff were helpful with questions we asked about the menu. The portions were small for the price. It’s expensive for what you get. Also be aware the meats on the coals all have bones in it.So the portions is even smaller asIt’s more bone than meat.

Well, I was expecting history, pride and tradition on a plate. What I got instead was confusion, laziness, and food that looks like it had given up before it even reached the table.First dish: Bolognese.Let's be clear, this was not Bolognese. A proper Ragu should be rich, slow-cooked, deeply flavoured. What arrived was pale, watery, and lifeless. Almost no Ragu sauce at all. The beef was soft, yes, but not slow-braised soft. It tasted boiled. There was literal water pooling at the bottom of the plate. That tells me one more thing: no reduction, no care. You don't serve pasta swimming like it's just come out of a dishwasher.Second dish: KleftikoThis is where it really hurt. Kleftiko should be a sacred Cypriot dish. What I got tested exactly like frozen lamb sealed in plastic bag, shoved into microwave, then thrown into an oven for few minutes just to pretend it's been cooked, but this time, no oven at all, straight served from the microwave. No depth. No freshness. No seasoning and absolutely, no soul. And once again, WATER EVERYWHERE. The plate looked like it had survived a flood.Supposed to be rich, aromatic, tender, infused with garlic and herbs. This wasn't juicy, IT WAS BOILED INTO SUBMISION.This wasn't slow-cooked with care and respect. This was slowly drowned, drained of flavour, and served without shame. A totally culinary vandalism. The only true traditional thing here was the music, and ironically, the best thing about the restaurant was the service. Attentive, polite, and impressively fast... About as fast as cooking a junk of lamb in a microwave and call that traditional national dish.Oh I forgot about the "roasted potatoes". Definitely not roasted. Roasted means crisps, caramelized, seasoned. These were just boiled chunks, place and forgettable, dumped on the plate as an afterthought.Advice for kitchen - test your food, season properly, connect with what you cook and stop killing food drowning it.Overall. Just a place living on its name, not it's food.

We enjoyed outside dining. Very tasty meat. The chicken Souvla with those divine potato’s. Keftedes (meatballs) were very tasty. Very nice homemade apple pie too. Staff are lovely. Nice relaxed atmosphere under a vine leaf canopy. Portion sizes just right.
