Agora Tavern is a popular Greek and Cypriot restaurant in the heart of Paphos Old Town, close to the traditional marketplace. Known for its authentic meze, welcoming family run atmosphere, homemade wine, and weekend Greek music, it offers a proper taste of local dining in one of the city’s most characterful areas.

What makes it special

Enjoy a fix-menu offering with options for both vegetarians and meat lovers.

halloumi cheese, vegan meze dishes like moussaka and spinach parcels., with delight in delicious salads.

Experience excellent service in a pleasant atmosphere with retro design elements from the 70s.

After relocating from its previous first floor spot on Kennedy Square, Agora Tavern now enjoys a much more prominent position on the cliff edge of the old town. The new location gives the restaurant beautiful views down towards the sea, making it a memorable choice for lunch, dinner, or a relaxed evening with friends.

A Traditional Tavern with a View

Agora Tavern is easy to recognise thanks to its charming pink building with green windows. Inside, the restaurant has a traditional feel, with antiques and rustic details that give it a warm, local character.

One of the highlights is the wraparound terrace, covered with vines and cooled by breezes from the distant sea. On warmer days, this is the best place to sit, especially if you can get a table near the edge of the terrace for the full view over Paphos.

The location feels special because it combines old town energy with a peaceful outlook. You are close to the marketplace, shops, and streets of central Paphos, but once seated on the terrace, the atmosphere feels much more relaxed.

The Food at Agora Tavern

Agora Tavern focuses on meze, with meat, vegetarian, and vegan options available. Rather than offering a large standard menu, the restaurant is built around the traditional Cypriot sharing experience, where a sequence of dishes arrives at the table and gives guests a wide taste of local flavours.

The full meze can be generous, so it is best enjoyed when you are hungry and ready for a long, social meal. There is also a mini meze available at lunchtime, which is a useful option if you want the experience without quite as much food.

The meal may include dishes such as salad with feta and carob syrup, couscous with apple, beetroot and pumpkin seeds, chickpeas with tahini dressing, tzatziki, spicy cheese dip, halloumi, traditional sausage, lountza, stuffed red pepper, herby mushrooms, pork souvlaki, pork souvla, chicken, and roast potatoes.

A Proper Cypriot Meze Experience

The meze at Agora Tavern is the main reason people visit. It brings together small plates, grilled dishes, dips, salads, and meats in a way that feels very Cypriot: generous, sociable, and made for sharing.

The meat meze is especially suited to guests who enjoy pork, as dishes such as pork souvlaki and pork souvla are often part of the experience. The vegetarian and vegan options make the restaurant more flexible for mixed groups, although it is always worth confirming dietary needs when booking.

For visitors who want to understand Cypriot food beyond one main course, Agora is a good choice. The variety of dishes lets you taste different textures and flavours in one sitting, from fresh salads and creamy dips to grilled halloumi, smoky meats, and comforting potatoes.

Drinks, Wine, and Cocktails

Agora Tavern is also known for drinks, with homemade wine and a selection of cocktails available. Many guests choose wine to accompany the meze, while cocktails are a popular choice for those enjoying the terrace and sea views.

Local wine is a good pairing with the richer grilled dishes and dips, especially if you want to keep the experience rooted in Cyprus. If you are visiting for dinner rather than lunch, the combination of meze, drinks, live music, and old town views can make the evening feel especially memorable.

Live Greek Music and Atmosphere

On weekends, Agora Tavern often offers live Greek music, adding to the traditional and lively atmosphere. This makes it a good choice if you want more than just a quiet meal and are looking for a fuller Cypriot dining experience.

The restaurant attracts both locals and visitors, which helps create an atmosphere that feels social and genuine. It is cosy and welcoming, but also popular, so planning ahead is important.

Opening Hours

Agora Tavern is usually open for lunch and dinner on most days, with Sunday generally closed.

Typical opening times are Wednesday to Friday from 11:30 to 14:30 and 18:30 to 22:00, Saturday from 11:30 to 14:30 and 18:30 to 22:30, Monday from 12:00 to 14:30 and 18:30 to 23:30, and Tuesday from 11:30 to 14:30 and 18:30 to 23:30.

Very good tavern with really delicious meze. It was a little different from the meze we had before, but in a good way. There were good and modern flavors, and the food was excellent. It is a little more expensive. A glass of wine costs 7-8€ and you can't order half a liter of regular wine, only special bottles for at least 30€. The Romanian waiter was very professional, unfortunately I didn't remember his name.

Absolutely perfect from the atmosphere to every bite of the food. It's not just a beautiful place for dinner but a whole Cypriot experience on many plates and bowls. I especially enjoyed their vegetarian meze. It can be hard to find many veggie options for meze in town but after visiting Agora, I don't think I'll ever need another one ❤️ Certainly a must-have Cyprus experience

The Agora Tavern was the perfect start to our Cyprus holiday. We went there wondering what we would be offered as there are no menus everybody gets the same thing (there is a vegetarian option). The food as well as the cocktails were amazing, and the food portions are extremely generous! Would definitely recommend to try if you want to eat local food - while it was on the more expensive end, it was worth it!

Incredible meat meze. I'm sure the veggie and vegan would be as well, based on the veggie dips that come with the meat.We did a lot of meze in Paphos and this is easily our favorite. Every dish was a hit and the wines are great as well. The cocktails are a little too sweet for my taste, so it's stuck to their fantastic wine selection. Book early for a patio seat with a view over the city down to the ocean. Or get an inside seat by the window for a nice view. Whatever you do, come here hungry or you will be carrying home a lot of leftovers.

A friend recommended this place, so we decided to try it in the evening. We were told that meze costs €20 per person. We ordered 2 meze, 2 cappuccinos and regular water. The food was nothing special and the meze for two was very small.About 10 minutes after ordering something really unpleasant happened: my husband got bitten by bed bugs inside the restaurant. We found 4 of them on him, and later more on his clothes. My husband said we needed to leave immediately — so we did.I texted the friend who recommended the place, and it turned out they had the same issue, but thought it was mosquitoes. I sent her photos of the bites — she confirmed it looked exactly the same. After we left we checked the bill and it was €67. Where exactly is the meze for €20? And do you really charge €10 for a cappuccino? Not recommending this place. Really unpleasant experience.
