  1. Things To Do in Paphos

Agios Neophytos Monastery, an ancient religious site, holds a significant place in history. It was established in the 12th century by the revered Cyprus monk, Saint Neophytos. Initially, the monastery consisted of a humble cave, but over time, it expanded to encompass a larger cell and chapel. The additions included a refectory and various spaces to accommodate the growing number of monks who joined Neophytos in his pursuit of an ascetic way of life.

Today, visitors are granted a unique opportunity to delve into the lives of these devout individuals who resided within the caves and other remarkable rock-hewn edifices. As you embark on your exploration of the original structures and museum, you will be captivated by the awe-inspiring paintings and frescoes that grace the walls. They serve as testament to the artistic prowess and spiritual devotion of those who once inhabited this sacred place.

Unlike in the days of Neophytos, when the monastery was secluded and distant, the Saint Neophytos Monastery now enjoys easy accessibility. Situated just a short distance from the center of Paphos, it takes only a few minutes to reach this historical site.
