The Agia Solomoni catacombs consist of a chapel and a series of underground chambers that serve as tombs. Within these chambers, you will find medieval paintings. The site itself, located on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue, is unassuming and often goes unnoticed. Many people stumble upon it by accident. As you explore, keep an eye out for a sacred turpentine tree. Its branches are adorned with colorful pieces of cloth, left as offerings to the saint after whom the catacombs are named.
When you first arrive, you will encounter a small courtyard surrounded by five stone chambers. One of these chambers houses a spring, while the western chamber is adorned with religious paintings on its walls. Now, you might be wondering where the tomb of the saint is located. Surprisingly, it is actually in Karpasia, on the far northern side of Cyprus.
